mailrust works with the mailboxes you already have. It reads mail over IMAP and sends it over SMTP; Gmail and Microsoft 365 can also connect with OAuth, without a password.
With an address and a password
- Open Settings → Mailboxes.
- Enter the address and the password, and press Connect.
That is usually all. mailrust finds the mail servers, ports and encryption by itself and checks them with a real connection before it saves anything, so a mailbox that connects is a mailbox that works.
If the automatic search does not find your servers, open Set up manually and enter the IMAP and SMTP servers and ports from your mail provider.
Gmail and Microsoft 365
With Sign in with Google or Sign in with Microsoft you sign in on the service's own page and no password is typed into mailrust. These buttons appear once an administrator has registered an app with Google or Microsoft under Settings → Passwordless sign-in; see Google and Microsoft sign-in.
Without them:
- Gmail accepts an app password: turn on 2-Step Verification in your Google account, create an app password and enter it instead of your usual one. IMAP must be enabled in Gmail's settings.
- Microsoft 365 usually allows only OAuth for IMAP, so ask your administrator to connect Microsoft.
Many mailboxes at once
Open Connect a list and enter one mailbox per line, the address and the password separated by a space:
anna@example.com her-password
sales@example.com another-password
Press Connect all. Each one is found and checked the same way.
Self-signed certificates
Some mail servers use a certificate nobody vouches for. mailrust stops before it sends the password and shows the certificate's SHA-256 fingerprint. Compare it with the one your administrator gives you, then choose Trust and continue or Do not trust.
Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo always have verified certificates. If this question is about one of them, do not agree: someone is standing between you and the server.
mailrust remembers the certificate you accepted. If the server later presents another one, the mailbox stops connecting until you look at the new certificate with Check the certificate again.
Where the password goes
Mailbox passwords are encrypted with the installation's master key before they are saved; see Configuration.
