Right after the install there is nobody to sign in as. The first run creates the first administrator and tells mailrust the address it is reachable at.
Open the link
The installer prints a link like this:
https://mail.example.com/setup?token=…
The token in it is the setup key. Only someone with the key can open the first run, so a stranger who finds the new installation cannot claim it. If the link is lost:
sudo -u mailrust mailrust setup-link
The key is also in the setup-token file next to the database, and the page asks for it when you open /setup without one.
Fill in the form
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Administrator login | The name you will sign in with |
| Password | At least ten characters |
| Password again | The same, to catch a typo |
| Installation address | The address people use to reach mailrust, scheme and host only: https://mail.example.com |
Press Create and sign in. You are signed in as the administrator, and the setup key stops working.
Why the address matters
Links in your emails lead to the installation's address: unsubscribe pages, open and click tracking, booking pages, and the address AI agents connect to. Write the one people reach from outside, not localhost. An administrator can change it later under Admin → Installation address; see HTTPS and proxies.
Next
Connect a mailbox, then invite your team under Settings → People.
