A list is the people who asked to hear from you. Under Newsletters, New list creates one; its settings hold the mailbox it sends from, the sender name, where replies go, the footer and the subscribers' language.
Getting subscribers
| Way | How |
|---|---|
| Sign-up form | A page where people subscribe themselves. Link to it, or embed the unstyled form on your site: it picks up the site's styles and has a hidden trap for bots |
| Add subscribers | Paste addresses, one per line with an optional name, or a table with a header row such as email;name;city;tags. Give tags to everyone added, and choose whether the welcome series starts for them |

Confirmation
With Form sign-ups must confirm via a link in an email on, a person who signs up gets an email with Confirm subscription and joins only after pressing it. Nobody can sign someone else up: without the click that person gets nothing. Resend confirmation sends it again.
Subscribers
Each subscriber has a state (pending, subscribed, unsubscribed, bounced, complaint), tags, custom fields used in emails, where they came from, and when they last read. Unsubscribe removes a person; only they can subscribe again.
Download subscribers as a table exports the list.
Leaving
Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and mail programs show their own unsubscribe button. A person who unsubscribes is never written to again from that list; addresses that bounce or complain are stopped by themselves.
The footer
Email footer says who is writing and why the person gets the email. Bulk-mail laws ask for a postal address. The unsubscribe line is added under it automatically.
